CS212/CS140 final options

The CS212/CS140 final will take place from 12:15pm-3:15pm PST on Thursday March 17 (during the registrar-assigned exam time). The exam is open-note–you can bring any printed materials you want except for the textbook–but you may not use any electronic devices during the exam.

Please note that you should email cs212-staff (the address on the class home page) regardless of whether you are enrolled in CS140 or CS212. There is no cs140-staff mailing list.

We are going to offer 4 options for taking the final. You must select an option and, if you do not choose A, let us know by Friday February 11:

Note that we do not have an option for a virtual exam outside of the registrar-assigned exam time of 12:15pm-3:15pm. If several options meet your needs, please favor option A and avoid option D (which imposes the highest logistical overhead on the course staff).

Option B – monitored exam

For SCPD students, the easiest thing to do is to register an official SCPD-approved exam monitor with SCPD. We will send the examination out through scpd-exams. More information on exam monitors is available through SCPD.

If you are a non-SCPD student or cannot find an SCPD-approved monitor and still want to have a monitored exam, email cs212-staff the information and we can also send the exam straight to your monitor. Suitable monitors include HR personnel or supervisors at work, instructors at other institutions, and student residence staff who are not themselves undergraduates. Proctors do not need to watch you for the entire 90 minutes, provided that they are available nearby and keep custody of any electronic devices you bring to the exam.

We generally prefer monitored exams, but do reserve the right to ask you to take option D if your proposed monitor does not seem suitable.

Please cut and paste the following email-template to request a monitored exam, and answer each question in the line below:

If you take the exam early, we reserve the right to make corrections to the exam between when you take it when we distribute it to the rest of the class.

Option D – virtually administered remote exam

To have a virtually administered exam, you will need zoom, a camera+microphone, and the ability to fill out the exam as a PDF form.
